Rygel is the descendant of a royal line of great leaders. He is the sixteenth in the line of Rygels. On his home world he was the sovereign to over 600 billion loyal subjects. During his reign he enjoyed the finer life of good food and many servants along with all the comforts royalty has to offer. Rygel's cousin desired his place on the throne and arranged a coup. Unknown to Rygel the coup played out and when it ended he found him self under the custody of the Peacekeepers. His cousin had made arrangements for Rygel to become their prisoner and once he was gone, his cousin was free to take the throne. Rygel had been a prisoner of the Peacekeepers for over 250 years. |

| Rygel is excessively concerned with his own self-interest. Although he has come to depend on the others on Moya to protect him and to help keep him free, he has not created a bond with any of them. His view of the other members of the crew is more of servant or body guard rather than friend. He prefers to keep to himself and avoids distractions such as camaraderie. Still viewing himself as royalty, he sees the others as being beneath him. There's more to him than meets the eye, he's a tough individual, he's excessively clever, very skilled at negotiation and he's extremely resourceful. |
